It has some modifications..but nothing very significant for AP mode, as far as I know. It does have all of the stable patches applied, which may help. You may still see problems, and if you do, please let me know. Not sure I can fix anything, but post your hostapd conf file and such and I'll see if we can reproduce the problem at least. I have a couple of older ath9k NICs lying around, maybe some with your chipset. We also run with nohwcrypt enabled, so possibly that has some impact on stability.
