You'll need to key on WTERMSIG (status).
"Segmentation fault" will not always be appropriate.
You'll get a core just with Ctrl-\ (SIGQUIT) too for example.
Something along the lines of:

"%s (core dumped)", strsignal (WTERMSIG (status))
