Thanks for replying. I do have the following definitions as well:

#define CONFIG_USB_HOST_ETHER
#define CONFIG_USB_ETHER_SMSC95XX

I'm going to compare u-boot and kernel PHY initializations. They are 
not the same,
and in linux everything works.
