I first noticed these using some compat-wireless stable drivers before kernel 3.8 was released for my distribution (I don't recall exactly which but I THINK it may have been 3.8-rc7, though it likely existed earlier as well). It also occurs with the new 3.8 kernel itself. I am using Fedora's kernel. I'm currently running Fedora 18 and using kernel version 3.7.9-205, which works just fine - the issues start at 3.8. The device I'm using is a TL-WN822N. It appears to be V3, which is odd as I'm pretty sure that only V1 and V2 use the ath9k_htc driver but I digress. The freezes occur multiple times daily and there doesn't seem to be any recovering from them. I've had the occasional DE freeze before and been able to go to a new terminal, this isn't like that - all I can do to fix it is a hard reset. I also got some kernel panics when I was using the compat drivers but I can't confirm that was the ath9k_htc driver specifically and in any case they didn't seem to correlate with the crashes. I am pretty sure the ath9k_htc driver itself is the culprit since the crashes only occur while I'm using my TL-WN822N adapter, not my internal one (which does have its own problems). I found references to similar issues happening in the past but mostly from 2010 and then apparently it was fixed. I just thought I should let someone know. I should be able to post any other necessary information from the actual crashes if you can tell me what you can use, it doesn't take too long for one to occur.
