BTW, an alternative is to to globally assign:
PKGDIR = $($(PKG)_PKGDIR)
then we can keep on using $(PKGDIR). But that probably is not really clear for
most developers...

I don't think it makes sense to make a mass change like that. If you want to
make a mass change, calculate some hashes :-)
