Subject: Cherry picked across patches from temporary fixes branch.

Hi All,

Just a quick note to say that instead of sending Greg two pull
requests I've elected to effectively rebase the fixes-togreg-post-rc1
by cherry picking the few patches there into a fast-forwarded
fixes-togreg branch.

Was the lazy option to me, but will mess somewhat with apparent dates
patches were applied. I doubt anyone cares though!

Jonathan
