Thank you for your reply. A bit more info:

When I click on the link in the man pages:

http://www.kernel.org/doc/man-pages/

It uses a REDIRECT to go the httpS site:

https://www.kernel.org/doc/man-pages/

My suggestion is for for the man page URL links to just link directly to 
the httpS site.
