I've tried it and it does work. The build directory that's set up with 
`O=` ends up with a Makefile with an `include` to the original Makefile 
in my main linux source:
	include $MY_WORKSPACE/linux/Makefile

(But see Miguel's reply about dropping the mention to "enter ..." 
altogether)
