Ow.  My eyes hurt from that.  How about we rewrite that as a native Perl
script:

    #!/usr/bin/perl
    $^I = ""; # this is -i
    while (<>) {
      s/\$(Id|Revision):.*?\$/\$$1: \$/;
      print;
    }
