Yes.

I don't recall what kernel version I was using.

There was, at one point, a userspace script as part of hal or udev
that was consuming a large amount of CPU while handling all the new
devices being created. I don't remember if the numbers I posted here
were before or after that was fixed, so perhaps it's worth another
test.
