Summary: No sound out of the built in speakers, but from
headphones on a Apple MacBook Pro
Description:
Hi,
this error occours on all macbook pros! (see www.mactel-linux.org). Sound
comes only out of the headphones or out of line-out, but the internal
speakers keep mute. I cannot unmute them using the mixer (alsamixer,
kmix). I also tried a rc version of linux-2.6.17 with the same result.
I also tried to load the snd-hda-intel module with "model=laptop" and
"model=laptop-eapd".

Well it's actually identical. Then I have no idea why. There are positive
reports that the same driver works on other Intel Macs, at least.

Tiwai. From some testing and some research I have found that the patch
works for 17 inch macbook pro, regular macbook, and mac mini. The patch
does not however work for the 15 inch macbook pro, and the iMac. There
seems to be some sort of difference with the GPIO stuff between the
models. This can be seen by some behavior in Windows with disabling the
internal speaker. I tried making some changes to patch_sigmatel.c but did
not really have any success, I noticed changing the pin definitions
altered some of the behavior but I could never get the speaker to make any
noise. Is there any function call that could tell the device to set all
inputs and outputs on the device as output? If you need any other
information please let me know.
