This makes the code layout quite horrible.
Instead, I suggest:
dev = kzalloc(sizeof(...)...
- if (!dev) {
- ret = -ENOMEM;
- goto out;
- }
+ if (!dev)
+ return -ENOMEM;
...
ret = device_register(&dev->dev);
- if (ret) {
- out:
- kfree(dev);
- }
+ if (ret)
+ put_device(&dev->dev);
