Subject: reiser4 on sparc64 gentoo linux
Date: Wed, 4 May 2005 23:53:38 -0400	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <a988e9f605050420531e1cd0a7@mail.gmail.com> (raw)

after reading:
http://kerneltrap.org/node/3727
and
http://www.mail-archive.com/reiserfs-list@namesys.com/msg17037.html

i'm curious what the current (05/05/05!) situation has come to with
reiser4 and linux 2.6.x.
i would like to install gentoo gnu/linux on a sparc64 (sun blade 100)
with reiser4 as the primary filesystem.

i agree with Hans w/r/t VFS... though Free software, as a creative
endeavor, consequently relies heavily on something like "memetic
capitalization" or perhaps simply "marketing"... more than people
would like to admit to themselves. maybe the need for Reiser4 from my
own perspective should _seem_ obvious just from BeFS and WebObjects,
let alone CoreData/Spotlight. without "memetic capitalization" (or
apple uses plain old-fashioned capital), too many wonderful ideas look
like Plan9, Squeak/Smalltalk, Xanadu, et. al. (i worry that even
Freenet could have fallen into that list). this could even explain
much of Free software's negative reputation for "fast follower"
status, rather than "first mover".

peace,
-z
