Known problem, capture is not supported in that ALSA version. You need the
latest ALSA sources from CVS (I think 1.0.9b also supports capture with
that device).

the solution to my problem.... many people have the same ....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
jcdutton - 09-10-05 10:39
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the snd-ca0106 does not yet have a capture volume. It is hardcoded at 0dB
attenuation at the moment, which basically means, almost at max volume.
Please post the output of steps 1 to 4 of
http://alsa.opensrc.org/TroubleShooting.

You seem to have drivers up to date enough.
The controls to adjust are the
Mic/Line in
SPDIF out
These are mutually exclusive. I.e. if SPDIF out is un-muted, Mic/Line in
will not work.
To capture from mic, select Mic on the Mic/Line in control in alsamixer
playback windows, and then I2S in on the capture window.

You seem to have drivers up to date enough.
The controls to adjust are the
Mic/Line in
SPDIF out
These are mutually exclusive. I.e. if SPDIF out is un-muted, Mic/Line in
will not work.
To capture from mic, select Mic on the Mic/Line in control in alsamixer
playback windows, and then I2S in on the capture window.
