Bug ID: 111198
Summary: System hang when running multiple GPU-heavy
applications
Product: DRI
Version: unspecified
Hardware: Other
OS: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: DRM/AMDgpu
Assignee: dri-devel@lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: network723@rkmail.ru
OK, this is something I notices long time ago, but never reported it becaus=
e I
can't imagine a test-case that would reliably reproduce the issue every tim=
e.
The problem is that *sometimes* system would hang when you run several
GPU-heavy applications (games) at the same time on a single GPU.
Computer would work fine for hours if you run just one of these programs, b=
ut
it may hang if you have two of three of them. I also noticed it may hang if=
you
use hardware vaapi encoder while running a game. Encoder works just fine un=
der
no GPU load.
When system freezes, there's no screen flickering indicating that GPU driver
tried to reset GPU. Could it be that hang is in driver itself?
This was happening to me with VEGA20 and POLARIS10 hardware, kernel 5.1.x, =
but
I remember same happening with Polaris on older kernels.
I can't provide any logs at the time, but if you know best way to collect t=
hem,
please share.
