There is probably a bug in dither.depth property set cause its value compared
with dither.mode:

if (property == disp->dithering_depth) {
    if (asyc->dither.mode != val) { //Should be dither.depth

        asyc->set.dither = true; //triggers dithering regardless of dither.mode
