Subject: [Bug 220576] New: USB port disable doesn't work on all ports
Date: Mon, 15 Sep 2025 15:43:14 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-220576-208809@https.bugzilla.kernel.org/> (raw)

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220576

            Bug ID: 220576
Summary: USB port disable doesn't work on all ports
           Product: Drivers
           Version: 2.5
          Hardware: All
                OS: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: USB
          Assignee: drivers_usb@kernel-bugs.kernel.org
          Reporter: forum@docmax.my.to
        Regression: No

Hello,
with

echo 0 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/4-1.1/port/disable
echo 0 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/4-1.2/port/disable
echo 0 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/4-1.4/port/disable

i can disable the ports on my usb 3.2 hub. It's a 10-port hub from RSHTECH
(RSH-ST10C).

Output of uhubctl for the USB 3.2 part:

Current status for hub 4-1 [0bda:0423 TerraMaster 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub, USB 3.20,
4 ports, ppps]
  Port 1: 0203 power 5gbps U0 enable connect [2109:8822 VIA Labs, Inc. USB3.1
Hub 000000001, USB 3.20, 4 ports, ppps]
  Port 2: 0203 power 5gbps U0 enable connect [2109:8822 VIA Labs, Inc. USB3.1
Hub 000000001, USB 3.20, 4 ports, ppps]
  Port 3: 0263 power 5gbps U3 enable connect [0bda:0411 Generic USB3.2 Hub, USB
3.20, 4 ports, ppps]
  Port 4: 0203 power 5gbps U0 enable connect [2109:8822 VIA Labs, Inc. USB3.1
Hub 000000001, USB 3.20, 4 ports, ppps]

The strange thing is, powering off port 1 and 4 works, but power 2 says it's
powered off, but the LED indicatior on the hub is still on (usb drive bay
doesn't suspend, the other 2 do).

Now i don't know if it is a hardware or a software bug. How to find out? Can it
be fixed?
