I tested with the latest git version from yesterday evening (13d261932bbfff7f45f288c5c8cce43177cccd3b) and unfortunately none of the "xset dpms force off,
standby or suspend" worked any differently than before.
The BenQ monitor just decides to stay in power saving mode and the only way to wake it up is to power cycle the monitor.
There really is nothing wrong with the hardware as the fglrx is able to use dpms power management just fine.
