Hi, i cannot get any opengl to work with r300g,
when i launch glxgears i get a black window with no output.

ltracing i notice it get stuck on a glClear call
$ ltrace glxgears
...
XPending(0x18e4010, 0x3f800000, 0x3f80000000000000, 0, 0) = 0
gettimeofday(0x7fff7a6ccad0, 0x7fff7a6ccb50) = 0
glClear(16640, 0x7fff7a6ccb50, 0x18e5778, -1, 1 <unfinished ...>

Mesa is build with
./configure --prefix=/usr \
    --with-dri-driverdir=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri \
    --disable-egl \
    --enable-gallium-radeon \
    --enable-gallium-nouveau \
    --enable-glx-tls \
    --with-driver=dri \
    --enable-xcb \
    --with-state-trackers=dri,glx \
    --disable-glut

as you can check here:
http://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/mesa/trunk/PKGBUILD

7.9 is also affected by the same behaviour, as reported on archlinux forums:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=886465
