Subject: [Bug 38583] New: Radeon HD 6850 locks computer when kernel module is loaded with KMS
Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2011 18:47:13 -0700 (PDT)	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-38583-502@http.bugs.freedesktop.org/> (raw)

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38583

Summary: Radeon HD 6850 locks computer when kernel module is
                    loaded with KMS
           Product: DRI
           Version: XOrg CVS
          Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
        OS/Version: Linux (All)
            Status: NEW
          Severity: critical
          Priority: medium
         Component: DRM/Radeon
        AssignedTo: dri-devel@lists.freedesktop.org
        ReportedBy: fisxoj@gmail.com

I just got a new HD 6850 card. When I boot with it inserted, I get through
bios and grub, and then have a few seconds of blinking cursor before the screen
goes off and I can't get the machine to respond to anything.

With the nomodeset option, I can boot to runlevel 3. Because everything
freezes when the module is loaded with modesetting (and since the xorg driver
seems to require it) that's as far as I can get.

I'm running 64bit fedora 15 that is up-to-date as of today.
