Date: Wed, 16 Mar 2022 13:53:12 +0000 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-960-3@http.bugs.dpdk.org/> (raw)
https://bugs.dpdk.org/show_bug.cgi?id=960
Bug ID: 960
Summary: PCAP PMD receives packets larger then MTU
Product: DPDK
Version: 21.11
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Normal
Component: ethdev
Assignee: dev@dpdk.org
Reporter: ido@cgstowernetworks.com
Target Milestone: ---
Created attachment 197

pcap with 1 packet ~9000B
Here is example of MTU (max-pkt-len) set to ~300B but driver receives packet of
~9000B (the jumbo pcap is attached)
<code>
root@u18c_9td3:/home/cgs/workspace/master/jumbo# ./dpdk-testpmd --no-huge
-m1024 -l 0-3 -n 4 --vdev
'net_pcap0,rx_pcap=jumbo_9000.pcap,tx_pcap=file_tx.pcap' -- --no-flush-rx
--total-num-mbufs=2048 --max-pkt-len=300 -i
EAL: Detected CPU lcores: 6
EAL: Detected NUMA nodes: 1
EAL: Detected static linkage of DPDK
EAL: Multi-process socket /var/run/dpdk/rte/mp_socket
EAL: Selected IOVA mode 'VA'
EAL: VFIO support initialized
TELEMETRY: No legacy callbacks, legacy socket not created
Interactive-mode selected
Warning: NUMA should be configured manually by using --port-numa-config and
--ring-numa-config parameters along with --numa.
testpmd: create a new mbuf pool <mb_pool_0>: n=2048, size=2176, socket=0
testpmd: preferred mempool ops selected: ring_mp_mc
Warning! port-topology=paired and odd forward ports number, the last port will
pair with itself.

There's further issues for apps (non test-pmd) that use pcap driver as they may
unexpectedly get segmented mbufs w/o setting RTE_ETH_RX_OFFLOAD_SCATTER
