The tzdata package and a bug with tzdata-dbg

Hey,

there are not many consumers of the tzdata package but there is one issue you 
might have when updating:
	Both tzdata and tzdata-dbg are providing tzdata and at least my version of 
	ipkg preferred tzdata-dbg over tzdata. The result is that you don't have the
	standard zoneinfo information for cities like New_York.

You want to get rid of tzdata-dbg and you want to get tzdata in this case, I 
have no idea how to do this in ipk terms. An Replace in tzdata 
for "tzdata-dbg" is not enough. I think tzdata-dbg should stop providing 
tzdata and at one point be removed. I have a fix in the OpenMoko OE tree and 
will do one for OE.dev now.

If the depchains aren't broken you also end up with $libc-dbg,
libgcc-dbg etc, if this were a library package. See

Change RPROVIDES = "foo" to RPROVIDES_${PN} and bump PR. Every R*
variable works on _every_ package, while most people want it to work on
${PN}.

Yes, this part is obvious. Now to the hard part tzdata-dbg has no content, now 
that the RPROVIDES are different the tzdata-dbg package will be gone. The 
tricky question is:

	ipkg update
	ipkg upgrade


tzdata-dbg should be gone, tzdata should be installed. How to achieve this? My 
attempt was to have an empty tzdata-dbg package that is not providing tzdata 
anymore, so on update ipkg should try to install tzdata again....

It won't, unless you removed this from bitbake.conf:

ALLOW_EMPTY_${PN}-dbg = "1"

That should work with opkg. But in your case (OM), bump PR on eds-dbus
to make sure tzdata gets pulled in.

talking about tzdata, the file /etc/localtime is missing.

I'd suggest you to look at the gentoo-ebuild here for some tips (pkg_config):

It's intentional, since ipkg (which was/is the de-facto standard in OE)
lacks a way to do interactive configure that works well with installer
GUI. So we decided: leave it to the user.
