Hello, I'm new to this list and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a
graduate student studying computer science and I am working on a project for a
company that uses basic off the shelf components to construct quality of
service routers for isp's. These routers use a modified version of red-hat
linux with the companies proprietary software installed over top. I am
experianced with networking, and fairly experianced with linux but I am
familiar with all routing and traffic control capabilities available A: built
into linux and B: available freely to run on linux. Right now I am basically
hoping to learn and observe as much as I can. If any of you have
recommendations for web sites, books, or documentation, please let me know.

Thank you for your time,
Brian Roberts

For traffic control under linux, the HOWTO+manpages basically is 'it', sadly enough.

For general TCP/IP stuff, get hold of TCP/IP Illustrated by Stevens. A must.

hello devik

sorry to trouble you again. actually i had compiled htb on 2.2.17, with
the old patch which was working. now i am trying to use the new patch
for 2.2.17, but it says as

"RTNETLINK answers : no such file or directory"

any clue, actually i have compiled CONFIG_RTNETLINK during kernel
compilation.
i am unable to make heads or tails.

should i try as answered by you for 2.4.17 kernel version, mail dated
03jan2002

>> quote

In 2.4.17 there is hange in kernel which causes this bug. As quick repair add line:
#define CONFIG_RTNETLINK 1

just before line:
#define HTB_HSIZE 16

>> unquote

if i do use as said above where do i define the above "define parameter"

regards / shekhar

you should tell which command it responds for with the message above.
Generaly the above doesn't seem like complaint when htb is not compiled
in. Seems like another kind of error ..

it is not the case for 2.2.17. It holds only for 2.4.17. Please post
more details as suggested above.
