Just my observation:

The improvement I have seen using the 2.4.1-010131 kernel from any 2.4.0
ia64 kernel is major enough to upgrade.

I have not seen any lockups of the sort I have seen on this thread. 

I am running a 4 proc Lion with 4 Gigs memory, Bios 71.

If you are seeing this issue on 2.4.0 I would upgrade.

FWIW, we have seen EXACTLY the same hang running here on our system.
The start/end addresses for the purge cross region boundaries.


We are running a 2.4.0 kernel.
