thanks for pointing this out.
i think checking $(DESTDIR)/xxx in the if is better than forcing to
install scripts onto non-existing directories.  fixed on cvs now.

the file is still required if you use a kernel with MODVERSIONS.

this is strange.  the current version works for me.
