I sure hope > so :-) well, this hotplug stuff depends on the distribution... in the of suse distro, the script is in /etc/hotplug/usb. this script is called from the user-map file, /etc/hotplug/usb/alsasound.usermap, which has basically the same as /lib/modules/XXX/modules.usbmap but snd-usb-audio is replaced with alsasound (the script name).
