This part was a bit misstated.  What I meant was more like

	if (!strcmp(...yes))
		use_mailmap = 1;
	else if (!strcmp(...no))
		use_mailmap = 0;
	else
		die(_("misconfigured"));

	if (use_mailmap)
		load_mailmap();
