Summary:                    Unknown model for ALC880 again, First International
Computer p4m-915gd1 no sound
Description: 
I'm unable to get any sound on my FIC p4m-915gd1 motherboard's built-in
sound. There are no error messages and I can play content all I want, I
just don't get any sound.

The manufacturer's page lists the hardware as "Intel HDA, Azalia 8
Channel, Realtek ALC880":

I've found other, similar reports here in the bug tracker (#1460, #1563,
#1589), including reports that this problem was resolved as of 1.0.11rc1.

Accordingly, I tried compiling alsa from cvs sources as of today, but this
made no difference. I still have no sound.

you may also try a "model=test" argument if position_fix fails. With this
argument, you get all the possible controls in the mixer. After finding
out, which control is actually influencing which I/O jack, you could
provide that info to alsa developers for inclusion into the driver.

As the note in bug 1563 says, the patch is already in CVS. I checked my
copy and it is indeed in there. So that doesn't help.

Neither position_fix=1 nor 3 made any difference on my system.

I must already have had all possible controls in the mixer, because this
parameter made no difference to the number controls I already had. All
controls are turned up to 75-90% and mute is of course turned off, but I
still have no sound.

In alsamixer, from left to right:

Headphone, PCM, Front, Front Mic, Surround, Center, LFE, Line, CD, Mic, PC
Speaker, Capture, Capture 1, Capture 2, Channel Mode, Input Source, Input
Source 1, Input Source 2
