I checked it again with position_fix=0,1,2 and it only works with 1 (always also using model=6stack).

Great catch! I was indeed using OSS emulation (by accident) by one program and thought it was a general problem. Sorry for that. I configured the program to alsa and volume control does work now. Thank you very much.
