Hi,

As in previous years we're trying to organize an audio miniconference so
we can get together and talk through issues, especially design decisons,
face to face. This year we're trying a slightly different tack and
trying to organize this as part of the workshops day at Kernel Summit
and Linux Plumbers in Santa Fe the week 31st October to 4th November
(I'm writing this offline so don't have the exact date for the workshop
day, sorry).

There is a wiki page with an initial list of proposed topics here:

    http://wiki.linuxplumbersconf.org/2016:workshops

In order to get this workshop approved we're going to need both a clear
set of things to discuss and visible interest from attendees so if
people could both follow up here and add to the wiki with suggestions of
topics that'd be especially appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Yeah, there wasn't anything in the template miniconf for the wifi so I'm
not clear what they're looking for there. We could.

Hey Mark,

I was looking up the topics list, I do not see anywhere to capture
attendees. Should we add that as well or..

Thanks

I checked the status on Wiki page but it's still not accepted.
Mark, could you ping LPC about the status?

We should register soonish, but of course, the workshop has to be
accepted beforehand...

thanks,

Takashi

Just chased them, let's see what happens. I also added a list of key
attendees (somewhat randomly, please add people as I've most likely
missed some) since I saw the wireless page had one added since I cloned
it and that's the only miniconf that got accepted so far.

I *think* people can get in without registration via KS but I'm not 100%
sure. Might be a problem if they need Plumbers registrations :(

Yeah, that's my concern, too. It'd be great if the situation gets
clarified. It seems like the early registration deadline coming
soon, and if the LPC registration is mandatory, we'd need to do it
ASAP.

thanks,

Did we get info from organizers. Audio is still not accepted uConf.
Anything we missed doing :)

We've been accepted - just querying details on things like how people
sign up. I'd strongly recommend anyone who wants to attend gets
themselves a LPC ticket if they can, it's a great conference.

Hi,

As in previous years we're organizing an audio miniconference so we can
get together and talk through issues, especially design decisons, face
to face. This year we're holding it as part of the workshops day shared
between Kernel Summit and Linux Plumbers Conference 1st to 4th November
(the workshops will be on the 2nd). This has now been confirmed and I
hope to see many of you there!

To attend you will NEED to have either a Kernel Summit invite (these
are going out now) or a Linux Plumbers Conference ticket. The number of
attendees at Plumbers is limited so I'd strongly encoruage you to sign
up early. The next batch of tickets go on sale on Saturday, the
registration site is here:

    https://www.regonline.com/register/login.aspx?eventID=1759990

(or go to the main http://linuxplumbersconf.org site for full details).
If you have trouble please let me know.

There is a wiki page with an initial list of proposed topics here:

    http://wiki.linuxplumbersconf.org/2016:workshops

If there's other topics you'd like to see covered please follow up here
and add to the wiki.

Are there any spaces for me to join in the audio workshop at 1st day of
the conference? (I already have my ticket for the conference itself.)

Yes, absolutely - anyone who's got a ticket for Plumbers or Kernel
Summit is more than welcome to attend.

OK, thanks.

>From me, additional three items to discuss.

1. Add tracepoints to pcm parameter processing in ALSA PCM core
In my memory of our previous mini audio conference, some issuers are
addressed about pcm parameters. This is my WIP related to it. The aim is
to monitor changes of pcm parameter refinement processing just after
calling ioctl(HW_REFINE/HW_PARAMS). See my working branch:
https://github.com/takaswie/sound/tree/trace-rules

2. Userspace control service daemon via ALSA control interfaces
For some devices for USB audio device class and Audio and Music units on
IEEE 1394 bus, we can put codes to control their states in userspace
because packet transferring can be done in userspace with proper
privilege. This may be a reasonable way to implement driver for
vendor-unique features.

3. Dropping dice driver from ALSA firewire stack
A fatal quirk apperard that the most of TCAT ASIC called as 'DICE'
breaks the least significant protocol as a sound device[1][2]. The
chipsets don't transfer PCM frames as the same as current sampling
frequency (it's sampling transfer frequency in IEC 61883-6 word).
This is my suggestion to drop dice driver from ALSA firewire stack.

Do we need to discuss this face to face - are there concerns people have
about adding tracepoints or something? I think it's a good idea to do
the tracepoints, I'm just wondering if we're going to have much of a
discussion or if it'd be a very brief thing.

I guess this is something that is mainly going to be discussed by a few
people?

A disadvantage we have; to enlarge binary size of snd-pcm.ko. Anyway,
I'll propose it on this mailing list, later.
