The following says it all:

By the way, this command line: 'amixer cget numid=0'

produces this:

Probably useful for developers, but not for end users. Could you please
implement a more
useful error message explaining what's wrong ?

The error is because you pass an invalid value numid=0.  It must be a
positive integer.
Will improve the error message, though.
