Sound doesn't get detected or seem to work with manual load. chipset: ATI Xpress 200 northbridge ULI 1573 southbridge The documentation says the sound is: Realtek ALC880 alsaconf detects nothing manually loading snd_hda_intel also doesn't print anything in the log files; though it does seem to load all the snd stuff just fine. ====================================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hubs - 08-23-05 14:40 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello I have the same problems on a Acer Aspire T630. I tried with the kernel 2.6.13-rc6, 2.6.13-rc6 patched with alsa 1.0.10-rc1, and 2.6.13-rc6 patched with the latest alsa's CVS, on 2005/08/23. I still have the same result of a kernel which loops with the message "azx_get_response timeout". When I try the acpi=off option, then I encounter the problems with the sata_uli module which are described on this bugzilla: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=165103 I emailed ALi Corporation 2 weeks ago about the sata controller and soundcard driver, but I've got no answer. Nevertheless, as described in this linuxquestions.org's thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/340638 , a modified version of the old azx driver has been done months ago and is available here: http://kuhazor.dnsalias.com/1573_Linux_K2.6.x_Integrated_Driver_1.31.zip in the directory "HD Audio_M5461". Perhaps, it can help. I tried it, the module loads, but I can't hear any sound. Any idea? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hubs - 08-25-05 11:57 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks to tiwai last commits, the CVS version can now load the module. I've compiled and ran it on Fedora Core 4 with the kernel 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4smp. About 7 seconds after the module loads, I can hear an ugly sound of about 5 seconds (a kind of siren). The kernel logs say: hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC880, trying auto-probe from BIOS... hda_codec: Cannot set up configuration from BIOS. Using 3-stack mode... Then I can see in /dev that it has created the sound devices (mixer, dsp, ...) owned by root (I'll have to check why, so that my user can access it). The sound quality is ... good, but not perfect. When the music volume is not too loud, I can hear some scratchs. As it's difficult to explain with words, the best example is with the song "Between rupture and rapture" by Thursday.
