i don't know your emi26 device has PCM volume.
if not, assign another existing control in the config of alsa-xmms
plugin.

it has nothing to do with plughw abstraction.
it's the difference of hardware.

hmm, then something wrong in the converter routine...
needs to take a deeper look.
