Hi

I can't have any sound on my sony VAIO vgx-xl100 system with the 1.0.14rc2
build on a 2.6.18 kernel (debian)

the output of lspci -nv is :

00:1b.0 0403: 8086:27d8 (rev 01)
	Subsystem: 104d:81f7
	Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 169
	Memory at fdff8000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
	Capabilities: <access denied>

dmesg gives :

ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:1b.0 disabled
PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:1b.0 (0000 -> 0002)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1b.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 169
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1b.0 to 64

[-- Attachment #1.1: Type: text/plain, Size: 8482 bytes --]

Your subsystem ID (104d:81f7) is not listed in the driver currently.
The driver is configured to use the generic parser if it can't find a
match.

There are two defined models for your codec (vaio, vaio-ar). Try
loading the driver with one of those models as follows:
modprobe -r snd-hda-intel                  # remove driver
modprobe snd-hda-intel model=vaio # reload with model deffinition

Try both model deffinitions to see which works better for you. Report
back your results and we'll get it added.

Thanks,

Tobin Davis

When i force model "vaio" dmesg gives :

ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:1b.0 disabled
PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:1b.0 (0000 -> 0002)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1b.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 169

When i force "vaio-ar" :

ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:1b.0 disabled
PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:1b.0 (0000 -> 0002)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1b.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 169

The facts: What did you test and didn't work as expected?

Note that the mixer appearance should be different from the state
without model option.

What i have tested :
using aplay or any other player do not give any sound, with or without the
model option.
e.g. aplay /usr/lib/openoffice/share/gallery/sounds/gong.wav do not give any
sound in my speakers

The mixer changes when i force the model :
without "model" option : only "master" and "pcm" playback exist
with "vaio" option, one "capture device appears, with 2 parameters : line-in
and microphone
with "vaio-ar", two more capture devices appear : line-in and microphone.

The "master" and "pcm" device are not muted.

Is there anoter parameter i missed to unmute the sound ?
