Looks reasonable to me.
What I suggest is to do things like general improvements by renaming
variables (see my comments in the previous patch) in a separate
cleanup-patch following this one.

So much from my side for now. I guess we'll be discussing a bit on the
other threads and on XDC. But overall, this is a very nice series that
improves things greatly, and from my POV we can transition to a v1;
maybe after brainstorming with the other guys next week a bit.
