Which tty are you using ? Is it present in the /etc/securetty file on
your target filesystem ?

What do you mean by "too much time" ? By default, a system generated by
Buildroot initializes almost nothing, so the login prompt comes very
quickly after the end of the kernel boot process.
Can you give some details, like a time-stamped serial line output ?
