Then you have much bigger problem than protocol selection. Have you added the 
needed 'source' directive in package/Config.in?

This is quite old. A lot has changes since then. The level of support you can 
expect from Buildroot developers will increase significantly if you update to 
something more recent.

Probably not. But you are likely to encounter a build failure once you fix you 
Config.in problem. Installing scons on your host might be enough, though.
