Well, I forgot to say: you do not need an intermediate variable:

    BEECRYPT_CONF_OPTS = \
        --disable-expert-mode \
        --without-java \
        --without-python \
        --disable-openmp

    HOST_BEECRYPT_CONF_OPTS = \
        $(BEECRYPT_CONF_OPTS) \
        --without-cplusplus
