No need for a sub-process, we can do it quite efficiently in python:

        if logf_path:
            s = 'blabla'
            with open(logf_path, "r") as f:
                lines = [l for l in f.readlines() if l.startswith(s)]
            self.assertEqual(len(lines), 0)
