Subject: [Buildroot] [PATCH v2 03/23] package: fix <pkg>_SRCDIR and <pkg>_BUILDDIR values
Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 14:37:24 -0700	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20261028213744.511429-4-florian.fainelli@broadcom.com> (raw)
In-Reply-To: <20261028213744.511429-1-florian.fainelli@broadcom.com>

From: "Yann E. MORIN" <yann.morin.1998@free.fr>

Until now, <pkg>_SRCDIR and <pkg>_BUILDDIR were taking into account the
potential <pkg>_SUBDIR, which indicates that the configure script is not
at the root of the source directory, but in some subdirectory.

However, in preparation for the out-of-tree build of packages, we want
to get rid of the <pkg>_DIR definition (because <pkg>_DIR doesn't
explicit whether it's the source or build directory), so we want
<pkg>_SRCDIR and <pkg>_BUILDDIR to become the real locations of the
source and build directories, respectively. To do so, they no longer
take into account <pkg>_SUBDIR.

Instead, a separate <pkg>_SRCSUBDIR variable has been introduced, which
points to the sub-directory in which the configure script (or
CMakeLists.txt file) is.

The autotools infrastructure is fixed to used <pkg>_SRCSUBDIR instead of
PKG_SRCDIR.

The cmake infrastructure is fixed to use <pkg>_SRCSUBDIR everywhere,
even in places where it was using <pkg>_BUILDDIR. The reason is that
now, <pkg>_BUILDDIR doesn't take into account the <pkg>_SUBDIR. Of
course, later patches will fix the CMake infrastructure back to use a
separate build directory.

[yann.morin.1998@free.fr:
  - rebase on master
  - cmake already has its own BUILDDIR now
  - also convert the extract commands
  - also move the filelist step-hooks
  - convert pkg-kconfig and pkg-luarocks
