[Buildroot] Why web search engine wrong for the Buildroot URL

Hi,

I noticed that all research results on Google or Bing for Buildroot is
based on this URL: http://buildroot.uclibc.org  and it does not work!
Using http://buildroot.org it works.
Is this normal ?

Both URL works. It's only that the uclibc.org domain name has been
migrated and therefore people are experiencing issues while trying to
access it. From here, at the moment of writing this e-mail, both URLs
give access to the exact same website.

FYI, The DNS issues have been reported to the Osuosl.org admins, so I
expect it will get resolved soon.

The buildroot.uclibc.org is a "legacy" address from before we had our
own domain.

Just for information, I'm connected from Paris and when i open the
http://buildroot.uclibc.org i have an error and when i ping or nmap it, i
have "failed to resolve the host name" and the problem persist on all my
hosts (at work, at home...) but we have no problem with buidroot.org.
If it's a DNS problem, i think it could be resolve after some hours.
i will inform you when it will be operational.

It seems we have both a .net and .org address now. The announcements
of 2012.02 use the .net address.
However, personally I would prefer the .org address, which is more
common in open-source projects in my (subjective) experience.

This may be nitpicking, but I'm interested in how others see this...

I agree, but, if I remember correctly, we don't "own" the .org domain
name, it is only kindly provided by its owner. So we have no guarantee
of its long-term availability.

Maybe we could discuss with its owner the possibility of transferring
its ownership (and associated costs) to the Buildroot project?

To me that sounds like a good idea. The owner is indicated as Earl Levine.
I suppose Peter has been in contact with him before?

Yes. I bought buildroot.net in early 2009, and some time later (mid 2009 I
think) the owner of buildroot.org transferred control (not ownership)
over to us.

I've used .net addresses in the announcements since 2009.

The reason for .net is mainly historical, and because of the (slight)
risk that Earl Levine (buildroot.org owner) will run away with it. i
don't feel strongly about it, but .net atleast matches busybox.net ;)

while .org matches uclibc.org ;)
