* [Buildroot] GTK vs Qt

When I run GTK demo programs on my ARM board?(built during linux building
by Buildroot), I start them by quoting it in xinitrc file (together with window
manager)?and then giving xinit command (is there some other way ?).
However, when running Qt demo?programs (linux built with Qt support), I can
start them with quoting only?-qws option (obviously programs are built with
QtCreator) - ie. no xinit ...?
Difference is also regarding startup times (which is?pretty big?difference when
speaking of first start).
What interests me is why different methods of starting GTK and Qt programs and
also why so huge startup?time difference ?

I was trying to (fully) understand the dataflow of the buildroot's
Makefile. How/who parse/calls to the functions like:
HELLO_INSTALL_TARGET_CMDS
HELLO_BUILD_CMDS
$(eval $(generic-package))
So, How I can tell to the generic-package to call HELLO_TEST_CMDS too?
example:

Adding support for one architecture in libffi is not very simple, so if
you don't need it for your own projects, I don't think you'll have the
energy to work on this.

In Buildroot [1], we had support to use an autoconf cache to speed up
the build. This autoconf cache was shared amongst packages, with the
idea that once a package has verified that such or such system feature
was available or not, it would be written in the cache, and subsequent
packages to be built would not have to do those tests again.
Unfortunately, we ran into several corner cases where some packages
were using the same autoconf variable name for tests that were mostly
the same, but not exactly, leading to the autoconf cache having a nasty
effect on the build of certain packages, if other packages built before
had "poisoned" the cache with somewhat invalid values.
I personally spent quite a significant amount of time fixing a few
configure.{ac,in} files in various packages, but in the end, we gave up
with this idea and no longer use the autoconf cache.
However, using the autoconf cache for successive rebuilds of the same
package should work.

changes merged rather than mine.
The mesa3d problem was fixed in master this week-end. It unfortunately
introduced a regression when building host-libglib2 on a PowerPC host
(seen on gcc110 build machine), but I think we'll try to address it
separately.
That said, your x11r7.7 bump is certainly -next material at this point,
since -rc1 has been released.

You can add options to the call to configure or cmake by setting
LIBFOO_CONF_OPT. I don't know how you set flags for cmake, but for configure
you'd do it with:
LIBFOO_CONF_OPT = CFLAGS="$(TARGET_CFLAGS) -O2"
Note, however, that optimization flags like -O2 are typically set in the
"gcc optimization level" choice in the "Build options" menu.

As you have probably noticed, we merged your Xtensa support in
Buildroot a few days ago. I'm really happy that your patches came in,
as it means that the removal of the Xtensa architecture will not be
visible (we removed it during this development cycle, and later
re-introduced it thanks to your patches).
I have also added one Xtensa toolchain configuration in our
autobuilder, and we are therefore starting to see a few Xtensa-related
build issues. Note that this is not at all a blocking issue for now:
when a new architecture is introduced, we expect to have build
failures. I'm listing below the failures we had, in case you have some
time to look at them:
* Failure to build gdbserver for the target, and gdb for the target as
well, both for the same reason: PTRACE_GETXTREGS and
PTRACE_SETXTREGS are not defined by the kernel headers apparently.
I'm not sure if they are just missing from the kernel headers, of
the ptrace support is missing in the kernel. See:

It would be nice if you could have a look at this.
* Xtensa apparently does not have libffi support. However, it is quite
a bit of work to get libffi support, so maybe we should just mark
libffi as not available on Xtensa (which is quite annoying because
libffi is a dependency for a huge number of packages, but we have
the same problem with other architectures as well). See:

Besides those issues, I'm just reminding you that we are still very
interested in having a Qemu Xtensa configuration to be able to run the
Xtensa systems we generate with Buildroot.

I'm a bit worried about this POST_INSTALL_IMAGES_HOOKS could be
mis-understood or mis-used...
Maybe it'd be worth to add few words saying that it's mainly for
bootloader purpose.

ironically i just started to add board support to Buildroot for this
board, it's not totally ready yet, it still needs some cleanup, and i
also had to add config option to the mxs-bootlets package to enable
custom patches, so i can't really send a patchset yet to the mainstream,
but i uploaded it to gitorious, if you still want to play around with it
then you can get it here:

to build a kernel and a base root filesystem, clone the repository, and
just follow the readme.txt:

No, just building i586 target inside 32-bit Fedora 16 host.
Ok, Im now going to rebuild both 2012.05 and latest git again and
see what happens.
