I was looking for this kind of build failure with a glibc based system:

checking for initscr in -lncurses... yes
checking for new_panel in -lpanel... yes
checking for new_form in -lform... yes
checking for new_item in -lmenu... yes
checking for gnutls_init in -lgnutls... yes
checking for gcry_md_map_name in -lgcrypt... no
configure: error: You need to have libgcrypt installed to compile sngrep
I just read what I wanted to read in the autobuilder reference...
It's weird that the autobuilder didn't catch it.

Add a new patch to allow to build gcc 7.1 without extracting gcc/testsuite
directory.
This new gcc version require a kernel patch [1] to avoid a build issue with
____ilog2_NaN symbol. The following kernel version contain contain already
this patch :
4.11, 4.10.6, 4.9.18, 4.4.57, 3.18.50 and 3.12.73.
To build a toolchain based on gcc 7 and uClibc-ng 1.0.24, the patch [2] is
required to avoid a build issue due to missing aligned_alloc() definition.

Bash's malloc relies on sbrk which is implemented as
a fail-only stub in musl. Presently, it is disabled
when configured for static libs. Instead, default to
using libc malloc.

you were right.
To integrate the NetworkManager I had to switch from "devtmpfs+mdev" to
"eudev" which seemed to cause a inconsistency in my setup ( a clean build
removes this) .

When the mono package is installed, the autotools installer installs
the /etc/mono files to the target. A post_install hook then copies
over the mono libraries to the target as well as the host /etc/mono
files which overrides the target files. The target specific mono
configuration file (/etc/mono/config) is overridden with the host
settings. This causes mono on the target to be unable to locate target
specific .so files as it overrides the changes enacted by the patches
for the package.

I don't understand what you're doing here. What about instead:
- If LIBGCRYPT_CONFIG != no, use it to assign LIBGCRYPT_{CFLAGS,LIBS}
- If LIBGCRYPT_CONFIG == no, fall back to AC_CHECK_LIB
