Hi, I've hit this too with:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE
Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03)

I tried the patch in comment #138 against 3.2.0-rc4, and I had similar results
as comment #139 - the display wasn't usable.

Is there anything else I can try?  I have the system readily available.
