Correction: I just had a hard freeze after an hour or so of X use.
Since I need to get some things done, I've booted in hybrid UEFI mode now with
only the brightness patch applied. The LVDS-blank-after-insmod issue is gone,
so it's not the backlight control I guess.
Also, interestingly, the power consumption of the laptop was considerably lower
under UEFI native mode (24W) vs. UEFI hybrid mode (29W). Could be either the
CRTC programming patch or something completely unrelated.
