Didn't have the time to try another distribution but I remember having similar display problems while trying Ubuntu from a Live image. Same problem under KDE. At 1280x1024, I get the "CS space validation" error message. My X300 came in a Dell PC.

Didn't have the time to try another distribution but I remember having similar
display problems while trying Ubuntu from a Live image. Same problem under KDE.

At 1280x1024, I get the "CS space validation" error message.
At 1280x960, I don't get it.
