You mean extending upload-pack ? Junio mentioned this possibility as well. This only solves the git:// and ssh:// case though. What to do with the other protocols? Also, I don't really understand why it would be less of a hack to add it to ls-remote than to add it to git-config. The latter seems more natural to me. skimo
