Ah, I was able to reproduce with that version. It looks like 1.5.0.6 doesn't properly fetch packed refs over http. IIRC, it _should_ work with that version (RelNotes-1.5.0 mentions packed refs), but there may be a bug. That version is over a year old now, and any bug has long since been fixed; can you upgrade to a more modern git? -Peff
