is there any document on how to compile and install git? Which package
shall I download from http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/?
What is the steps to compile each of them?

get the latest version. ;-) That is,
http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/git-1.5.6.2.tar.bz2
right now.
