[PATCH] Start conforming code to "git subcmd" style

User notifications are presented as 'git cmd', and code comments
are presented as '"cmd"' or 'git's cmd', rather than 'git-cmd'.

There will be more patches to come. I'm splitting these patches to 
approximately 200 lines for better review.

The patch tries to conform to Junio's style suggestions.
